The National Association of Nigerian Students has said it will not relent in ensuring that some of the benefits being enjoyed by only federal universities will be extended to federal polytechnics and some state-owned institutions.
NANS National President, Sunday Asefon, during a visit to the Rector, Federal Polytechnic, Ado Ekiti, Dr Hephzibah Oladebeye, said the association would not shy away from ensuring quality welfare for students in all parts of the country.
He said, “I met with the Minister of Works and Housing, Babatunde Fashola, on the need for the Federal Government to extend the hand of fellowship it has extended to some federal universities on road networks to the federal polytechnics and other state tertiary institutions that are yet to benefit.
“I also discussed with him how to help the tertiary institutions to have befitting hostels. Looking at what is going on, the management alone cannot do it and once they are under pressure, the students will be at the receiving end. These are the issues we are going to discuss with stakeholders at every level.”
Oladebeye advised students not to resort to arson attacks or looting during a crisis with the management of the institutions.
