I Won’t Give ASUU Opportunity to go on Strike Again –Ngige

 Minister of Labour and Employment, Chris Ngige, on Wednesday, said he won’t give the Academic Staff Union of University any excuse to go on strike again. Ngige, whose ministry is the negotiator between the varsity lecturers and the Federal Ministry of Education, said he would ensure the government keeps its part of the bargain The news outlet had earlier reported that ASUU National President, Biodun Ogunyemi, on Wednesday morning in Abuja, “conditionally” suspended the nine-month-long strike by the lecturers after a lot of foot-dragging by both parties. ASUU Strike: NANS Clamours for Students’ Involvement in Future Negotiations

 The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) has commended the Federal Government (FG) and the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), for reaching an agreement to end the union’s nine-month-old strike. Sunday Asefon, the National President of NANS, while reacting to the announcement by ASUU calling off the strike on Wednesday in Abuja, called for the involvement of the students’ body in future negotiations. ASUU embarked on strike on March 23, to press home its demands which included funding for the Revitalisation of Public Universities, payment of Earned Academic Allowances (EAA), resolving salary shortfall and state universities’ problems. Others bordered on visitation panels, re-constitution of the 2009 FGN/ASUU re-negotiation committee, University Transparency and Accountability Solution (UTAS), withheld salaries and non-remittance of check-off dues. ASUU gives FG Fresh Conditions for Safe Reopening of Varsities Nationwide

 The Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU, on Wednesday, gave government condition for its members to resume their duties. ASUU President, Prof. Biodun Ogunyemi said lecturers would return to classes when government provide conducive teaching environment in line with COVID-19 protocols. Ogunyemi disclosed this while fielding questions from journalists in Abuja, after calling off the nine months strike. Representatives of both ASUU and federal government had met to strengthen out agreements reached. Strike: ‘We won’t Resume till FG corrects imbalance in earned allowances’ - NASU, NAAT, SSANU

 NON teaching staff in the universities have vowed not to go back to work if the Federal Government fails to correct the alleged imbalance in the sharing formula of the about N40 billion Earned Allowances It was alleged that the government gave the Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU, about 75 percent of the Earned Allowances leaving 25 percent for the other three unions of the Senior Staff Association of Nigeria Universities, SSANU, Non-Academic Staff Union of Educational and Associated Institutions, NASU and the National Association of Academic Technologists, NAAT to share.
